Hand Broom Workshop

Hand Broom Workshop
This workshop will introduce students to broom making as they learn to make a traditional turkey wing broom – a handheld fanned whisk broom resembling a turkey’s wing. This broom design dates back to colonial times and the common (albeit false) myth is that Ben Franklin used these in his efforts to promote the turkey as national bird.
These brooms are effective sweepers great for cleaning up small messes around the house and are handsome decorative pieces as well. Using modest tooling and materials each student will learn the basics of broom craft. These brooms are beautiful pieces of folk art and a wonderful introduction to traditional craft.
All materials will be provided. No experience necessary. Workshop is limited to 8 students.
