In this workshop we will explore our favorite compliment of surface treatments and food safe finishes – ones that we use in our own work. While we use these mostly on bowls and utensils they can be applied to a wide variety of work. This workshop is all about experimenting with new techniques. Students will be introduced to shou sugi ban (charring wood surfaces,) ebonizing wood, creating carved textures, milk paint, and food safe finishes. This workshop will serve as a primer level look into these methods and students will make sample tiles to reference for their future works.
Materials will be provided. No experience necessary.
