Learning Kumiko

Learning Kumiko

$365.00

Kumiko is a delicate Japanese woodworking technique that utilizes thin strips of wood to create intricate geometric patterns. This is accomplished without the use of nails or fasteners, but rather through interlocking joints and carefully executed angled pieces. You can find examples of Kumiko in shoji, furniture, boxes, door panels, etc.

Students will primarily use hand tools to create their patterned works of art. We will concentrate on the asa-no-ha pattern (hemp leaf pattern), a popular design, to communicate basic techniques and tool use. We will also create a frame to help showcase your work.

No experience is required. All materials will be provided. Workshop is limited to six spots.
